To celebrate this week’s release of the War Goddess Volume 1 graphic novel, Boundless Comics proudly presents daily entries written by Mr. Action himself, Mike Wolfer! Every day, we’ll pitch a match-up to him, taking one of the characters from Lady Death and pitting her (or him) against one of the War Goddess roster! Who will win?
Today’s Match: Stigmata Vs. Widow
Stigmata is a being whose body is composed of “living” blood, and she’s able to transform from solid flesh into a liquid state. Her scariest power is that of possession and when she’s in that liquid/blood state, she can flow into an enemy’s eyes, nose, or mouth, and take control of their mind and body. Widow is a genetically-mutated human with unusual agility and strength, the power of almost instantaneous healing and, of course, those four huge spider legs which extend from her back.
This would be an interesting battle, to be sure. Both Stigmata and Widow are of equal strength levels, and because of Stigmata’s ability to transform into liquid, Widow’s slashing claws and spider legs would have zero effect. How do you physically defeat a foe which slips out of your fingers like water? Stigmata’s typical method of achieving victory is to inhabit the body of her enemy, but that would have devastating consequences for her if she tried to possess Widow, as her spider abilities spring from a gene-warping virus within her bloodstream. Once inside Widow, Stigmata would herself become infected with the “spider virus,” so although Widow might be physically defeated, she would retain a symbolic win by forever infecting the foe who sought to infect her.
